The Cairns Cup team is pleased to announce the venue for the 2024 event will be Eagle Crest Golf Club in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Michigan. Located just 20 minutes from the City of Detroit in Michigan, the course has been chosen for both its challenge and its on-site facilities including a 200+ room Marriott Hotel making it an ideal location for players, sponsors, and supporters.
The Cairns Cup 2024 will follow the same format as 2022 starting with the players arriving on 3rd August then a Charity Golf Day (5th Aug), Disability Open Day (6th Aug) and The Cairns Cup (7th, 8th & 9th Aug) making a Festival of Disability Golf Week.
The newly named venue course was designed by Karl Litten and opened in the summer of 1989 and measures 7,186 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 143 and a 75.1 USGA rating.
The Cairns Cup (the Ryder Cup style Disability Golf Tournament) venue is surrounded by breath-taking views of Ford Lake and Eagle Crest Golf Course’s 18-hole championship course, with the hotel having 2 restaurants The View & The Terrace and has an extensive fitness centre.Owned by Eastern Michigan University, Eagle Crest also boasts a PGA Teaching Academy on the property along with its state-of-the-art practice facility and a short game area, enabling golfers of all abilities to benefit and refine their skills. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels which is perfect for The Cairns Cup format. The 16th hole was recently cited by USA Today as one of Detroit’s “Dream 18-Most Memorable Holes”.
Meanwhile, earlier this year, the team have appointed marketing and website Agency MC2 Marketing to redesign their website and look to develop the marketing of the event over the next 18 months to a supportive global golf audience. Resulting in a brand new website launch in January 2023. The new website can be found at www.thecairnscup.com
Commenting on the venue, Vice President and former European Team Captain Kevin Booth said, “Despite shortlisting a number of great venues, Eagle Crest stood out as the best combination of great course and easy access for the players, we are so looking forward to visiting this unique part of the world!”
Ian Mullins, Head of Strategy and Storytelling at MC2 Marketing said “We couldn’t be prouder to be chosen to take the branding and awareness of this amazing event to a wider US public and golfing fraternity…’Motown’ here we come!”
