Kris Aves raises £10K for The Cairns Cup at The Shire!
Get Team Europe to Michigan
The Cairns Cup event team have kicked off the first of many fundraising golf days both here in the UK and in the USA. The first taking place at The Shire – London on 26th July 2023.
The Shire London Fundraiser hosted by Kris Aves
Kris Aves – who was the Policeman paralysed in the Westminster Bridge Terrorist attack in 2017. Kris hosted the event which was attended by over 80 golfers. Everyone was keen to support Kris and his fellow teammates as they look to playing the next Cairns Cup disability match play tournament in Michigan in August 2024.
After the golf on the day, four previous Cairns Cup players took part in a Q&A followed by a Live Auction hosted by Kris. The players talked about their expectations before last year’s inaugural event and their excitement about travelling to Cherry Creek Golf Club in Detroit next August. They also went on to explain how ‘fatigue’ and ‘preparation’ play a huge part in the ability to play (Disability/Adaptive) golf frequently and how a recovery plays a big part in their golfing lives.
Golf Industry support fundraiser
This fundraiser was also attended by the golf industry including Alison Root (Women’s Editor Golf Monthly), Adrian Milledge (Assoc. of Golf Writers), Darren Redwood (Your Golf Marketing) and Ian Mullins (The Social Golfer).
Commenting on the day Alison Root Women’s Editor of Golf Monthly said “Until yesterday, I did not really know much about The Cairns Cup but now I want to spread the word as this is a fantastic Europe vs USA biennial event for players with disabilities. Yesterday’s fundraiser at The Shire London was a huge success and will help towards getting our European team to Detroit in 2024. To hear what these players must endure before, during and after a round is humbling, but to see the joy that golf brings to their lives is amazing.”
