Cairns Cup 2026 Official Handover and Community Engagement in Spain and Gibraltar

On 11th April 2025, Cairns Cup CEO Ian Halliwell and British Inclusive Golf Director Steve Skitt visited the prestigious San Roque Golf Club in Spain, which has been selected to host the 2026 Cairns Cup. The visit marked a significant step in the preparations for this premier disability golf event scheduled for 11-18 July 2026.

During their visit, Halliwell and Skitt participated in the inaugural Green Jacket competition held at the club, experiencing firsthand the challenging course that will test the adaptive golfers next year. Following the competition, they conducted the official handover ceremony, presenting the Cairns Cup flag to Fátima Muñoz, Chief Operations Manager at the San Roque Club.

“San Roque Golf Club represents the perfect venue for the Cairns Cup with its world-class facilities and stunning setting,” said Halliwell during the ceremony. “We are confident that the 2026 tournament will set new standards for disability golf on the international stage.”

Community Engagement in Gibraltar

The delegation’s agenda extended beyond tournament preparations, reflecting the Cairns Cup’s broader commitment to community engagement and inclusive sport. Halliwell and Skitt travelled to nearby Gibraltar where they presented the Gibraltar Special Olympics team with new equipment, supporting the development of adaptive sports in the region.

“Our mission extends beyond hosting a premier golfing event,” explained Skitt. “We aim to create a lasting legacy of inclusivity and accessibility in golf across all communities we engage with.”

Additional Venue Assessment

In a follow-up visit on 14th April, Cairns Cup European Captain Kris Aves conducted a detailed assessment of San Roque’s facilities, with particular focus on accessibility for players with disabilities. Aves also met with Muñoz as part of the official handover process.

Both CEO Halliwell and Captain Aves have concluded that the facilities at San Roque meet the highest standards required for the prestigious event and expressed their enthusiasm about hosting the US team in July 2026.
