The Cairns Cup CIC are pleased to announce that they will be working in association with The Samuel Ryder Charitable Trust,  The SRCT is the official organisation set up to promote the sporting legacy of Samuel Ryder, one of golf’s most prestigious and well-known benefactors. Samuel Ryder was an innovative businessman, social welfare campaigner, sporting promotor and golf enthusiast, and his story continues to be told today. Ryder’s successful business interests allowed him the means to begin sponsoring events, and to give the best British players of the time the means to compete with the Americans, culminating by donating the Ryder Cup, which bears his name. Ryder’s legacy of supporting the game of golf is still being continued 100 years on.

The charitable trust is committed to Samuel Ryder’s original intentions; growing the game and promoting sporting excellence through the best intended rivalry, and competition played at the highest level. The SRCT is owned and managed by the family of Samuel Ryder.

This association will enhance the profile of The Cairns Cup, Golf’s Premier Pan Disability match play event played every 2 years between USA and Europe especially knowing that Samuel Ryder himself was all for competitions of this nature.

We are hoping to attract some long-term sponsors to support the event well into the next decade and beyond. Plans are already being made for the 2023 to 2029 events with venues like The Fortress Golf Club in Michigan, The Shire London (the only Seve Ballesteros Course in the UK) and San Roque Golf Resort in Spain. All the venues are high profile and will set a challenge to the disabled golfers selected to play as well as giving any sponsors the chance to maximise advertising opportunities.

Two years ago today we sadly lost a good friend and fellow golfer Billy Cairns, this prompted the start of The Cairns Cup aka “The Billy” so this association shows how far we’ve come in a short time.

We’d also like to thank all our present sponsors for their continued support during these unprecedented times.
