THE HISTORY OF THE CAIRNS CUP

THE CAIRNS CUP STORY

Who was Billy Cairns?

For those who may not be familiar, The Cairns Cup—affectionately known as “The Billy”—was born from the Phoenix Cup 2018 in Florida. During that event, a team of disabled golfers from the USA and Europe played at Rotonda Golf Club. Billy Cairns, a member of the European team, tragically passed away the day after arriving in Florida. His loss cast a heavy shadow over the competition, yet it also brought the two teams closer together, creating a bond and camaraderie like never before. In his honour, both teams decided to establish “The Cairns Cup,” a lasting tribute to Billy’s spirit and the unity fostered through the game.
